NORTH YORKSHIRE County Council has announced that the register office of births and deaths in Ripon is on the move.

From September 2003, the register office will move from the Town Hall to share facilities with the county councilís library in Ripon. Opening times remain completely unchanged at 1.30pm to 5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The move will mean that clients will now have proper waiting facilities and be seen by the registrar in a bright and more pleasant environment. Most importantly, the library staff will be on hand to offer clients a more personal touch when they arrive.

Councillor Carl Les, the county council's executive member for the registration service said: "This move will give the people of Ripon the facilities they are entitled to expect from a modern registration service.

"The registration service must be people centred at all times. Many of our clients are elderly or distressed and we will now be able to offer a much more human face to people when they arrive."
