The County’s consumer watchdogs have warned about bogus callers offering free damp surveys.

It comes after the Trading Standards Helpline has received several complaints about unsolicited calls.

Mick King, County Trading Standards Officer, said ‘We are particularly concerned that many of the people who have contacted us have been elderly although fortunately, none have agreed to have the survey done. Our advice to anyone else who is contacted is to be extremely wary of such telephone calls and to be prepared for a visit from a salesperson well versed in high pressure selling techniques if they agree to the visit. Anyone who is concerned about damp in their home is advised to seek professional advice from well-established reputable traders and always to get several quotes before reaching any decision.”

People can register with the Telephone Preference Service to help reduce unsolicited calls. This service is free by calling 0845 070 0707 or online at’

The Trading Standards helpline is 01670 533331
