From Trading Standards Quiz to Computer Whiz!

Pupils from Crofton School have earned their school a new computer package thanks to their efforts at this year’s Young Consumer of the Year Competition.

The Competition is run annually by Trading Standards to encourage pupils to be aware of practical issues such as consumer and legal affairs. Schools from across West Yorkshire have been competing for a place at the National Finals in Edinburgh this summer.

Crofton School entered the Wakefield District Heat and, although newcomers to the Competition, they didn’t lack in confidence. The team consisted of year 10 pupils Jamie Cawthra, Simon Kemp, Edward Hill, Simone Beedle and Stacey Catch.

West Yorkshire firm CCL Computers support the competition offering a multi media computer to the school that are deemed to have shown the most effort and enthusiasm throughout the competition.

Staff from West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service felt that Crofton School gave an all round team performance and look forward to seeing them compete again next year.

Kath Butterworth, head of Business Studies at Crofton School, said ‘The pupils enjoyed being involved in the competition and the school is delighted to receive the computer. It is good that the team can see their efforts benefiting the whole school.’

Councillor Graham Clarke, Chairman of the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Committee, said ‘I am pleased to see new schools entering this worthwhile competition and would like to thank the sponsors for allowing us to recognise their efforts with this fantastic computer, which will be really beneficial to the school’.
