TRADING STANDARDS WARN OF COSTLY FAXES

NORTHUMBERLAND County Council Trading Standards Department today warns residents and businesses in the County to be wary of faxes from companies offering to delete the recipient’s details from their mailing list.

Recipients are advised to fax their request to a premium rate line (090***) costing £1.50 per minute, or in one case,  £5  per request.

But for the price of a stamp, the same request can be sent in writing to the address provided in the small print

Mick King, County Trading Standards Officer, points out that fax owners and users can save time and money, paper and ink, by registering with the Fax Preference Service and avoiding their details being released to these companies in the first place.

“The service is easy to use and should significantly reduce the number of ‘junk’ faxes sent to both private and business fax numbers,” says Mr King.

The Fax Preference Service can be contacted on Tel: 0845 0700702 (local rate). Registration is free.
