Pornographic  Video Catalogue Mailed To Unsuspecting Lancashire Households

Following a number of complaints, Lancashire County Council’s Trading Standards Service has expressed concern about the random mailing of obscene material to Lancashire households.

The mailshot, headed ‘Continental Videos’, appears to come from a Dutch Company via a London address and consists of a catalogue offering hard core videos and DVDs and containing material of a sexually explicit nature.  The catalogue appears to be being distributed at random and is unsolicited.  The catalogues are posted in a grey plastic A4 sized envelope and consumers receiving this type of envelope should be aware that they may find the contents offensive.

County Councillor Tim Ormrod, Cabinet Member for Public Protection and Rural Affairs, said:

“The Trading Standards Service has been inundated with complaints from members of the public who have received this catalogue through the post.

“It is illegal to send such material through the post and families are warned about the unsuitable and explicit nature of this catalogue.  Further action is being considered, both by the Trading Standards Service and the Police.  Any consumers receiving this material can complain to the Trading Standards Service via the helpline number 0845 600 1352”.

Note to Editors: It is an offence against the Unsolicited Goods and Services Act 1971 to send unrequested explicit material to any consumer.
