THE Registration Service operated by North Yorkshire County Council is one of the best teams in the country according to official sources.

The service has been chosen as one of seven finalists in a competition to decide the best Local Government Top Team for 2002.  The nationwide competition was open to all services in all local authorities.

The competition seeks outstanding examples of achievements by teams delivering services to the community.  North Yorkshire’s entry showed how, by innovation, creativity and a lot of hard work, the registration service has been transformed into one of the leading services in the country.

The finals will be at Kensington Town Hall on November 27 when officers from the Service will present their case to a distinguished panel of judges.

Councillor John Dennis, the county council's executive member with responsibility for the registration service, said: "We have always aimed to make this the best registration service in the country.  It is even more pleasing to know that we are now among the very best teams covering all services. This is a tribute to the staff who have worked so long and hard to achieve this."

The competition is organised by the Local Government Management Network and supported by SOLACE (Society of Chief Executives) and the Local Government Association.
