WATCH OUT!! A BOGUS PRIZE LETTER COULD BE WINGING ITS WAY TO YOU

You’ve just won a cheque for £9,000 from an organisation that you’ve never heard of.  Sounds to good to be true? But there’s a catch – you have to send off a £22 ‘contribution fee to receive your £9,000. You send your fee to an address in Switzerland. The chances are you can kiss goodbye to your £22 and that you won’t receive your £9,000.

This is the latest con to hit South Cumbria. Cumbria Trading Standards are warning people not to respond to the letter.

Phil Ashcroft, Head of Cumbria Trading Standards said

“This is the latest in a long line of scams originating from abroad and asking people to send off money in the expectation that they’ll receive a larger cheque. My advice is to put the letter in the bin, where it belongs.”

For more information on this scam please contact Pat Thomas, Cumbria Trading Standards on 01539 773591.
