Another Successful Ladies Evening

Some members of West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service’s Motor Trade Partnership have been running a series of Ladies Evenings at their showrooms. The latest event was held at C D Bramalls on the 2nd April 2003. The evening was attended by over 40 ladies and was a great success. The evening consisted of:

· Talk by Trading Standards on the civil rights
· Maureen Everson of White Rose Reflexology
· Women driver safety presentation by P.C Sarringdon of West Yorkshire Police
· Workshop tour by Vauxhall trained mechanic
· Virgin Vie beauty demonstration.

Martin Wood Chief Officer of West Yorkshire Joint Service said, “Women often feel that the motor industry is a very male dominated environment and the evenings were aimed at providing a relaxing atmosphere while still being informative.”

The next Ladies Evening is taking place at West Yorkshire Motors, Castleford and is already fully booked. Following their success, more of these evenings may be planned for later in the year.

The Motor Trade Partnership is aimed at reducing the number of complaints relating to the motor industry, this then enables officers to concentrate their efforts on those less reputable traders who sell clocked or unroadworthy vehicles. Members have to abide by the terms and conditions set by Trading Standards and are audited yearly to ensure compliance. If a consumer has a complaint against a Motor Trade Partnership member, they can seek advice and arbitration through the Consumer Helpline.

The Partnership has been extremely successful since its launch, complaints against members have dropped by 62% and continue to fall each quarter. It is vital however that the consumers of West Yorkshire are aware of the scheme and what benefits it can offer them.
