The Green Green Grass of Building New Homes

West Yorkshire Trading Standards today sends out a warning to consumers and businesses concerning land being advertised for sale over the Internet.

Several complaints have been received by the Consumer Helpline about plots of land for sale around the region. The implication is that this land is available for development once it has been purchased.

However, investigations have shown that the land is often green belt land. Planning permission would always be refused for any development on green belt land. This is not always made clear in the descriptions of the land.

Martin Wood, Chief Officer of West Yorkshire Trading Standards said, “I want to warn the consumers and businesses of West Yorkshire to be aware of this type of investment. Whilst the companies involved are not breaking the law, they are not always making buyers aware of the full situation. Please investigate as fully as possible any claims that are made before parting with your money.”

Cllr Graham Clarke, Chairman of West Yorkshire Joint Services added “if anyone has fallen foul of this type of investment or would like any more advice then please call the Consumer Helpline on 0113 3 848848”
