Do you know your crankshaft from your dipstick?

Women’s impressions of the motor trade are often marred by bad previous experiences. Some members of the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Motor Trade Partnership are holding a number of events specifically aimed at women to change their views, while also providing a fun, yet informative evening. An officer from trading standards will be available on the evening to answer any questions and give basic advice on what to look for when buying a car, what questions to ask and the pitfalls that you can encounter.

Some members have arranged a range of events for the evenings, including fashion shows, beauty makeover, demonstrations on how to change a tyre and lots, lots more.

The Motor Trade Partnership is now in its second year and the main aim for the Partnership in the coming months is to ensure that the residents of West Yorkshire are aware that the Partnership exists and what benefits they can gain by choosing a member. The members are committed to customer care and where an issue can’t be resolved between the parties then the matter can be referred to a Trading Standards Liaison Officer, who can help to arbitrate the situation.

Customers can rest assured in the knowledge that the members carry out a series of checks to ensure that the vehicles they sell don’t have outstanding finance, have not been a write off and that the mileage is correct.

Councillor Graham Clarke Chairman of West Yorkshire Joint Services said, “It is very important the consumers of West Yorkshire are aware of the Motor Trade Partnership. It is clear that the Partnership works, as complaints against members have fallen by a staggering 61% since the launch of the Scheme. I would urge consumers to make informed purchases, don’t get caught out and look for the Motor Trade Partnership logo. Alternatively, contact the Consumer Help Line on 0113 384 8848 who are able to provide you with a list of current members. Details are also available on our website at www.ts.wyjs.org.uk”
