Issue 26 of the West Yorkshire Trading Standards newsletter is now in circulation.

The newsletter, which is distributed throughout the West Yorkshire area to schools, libraries, businesses and various other information centres, is a quarterly publication and contains information on consumer legislation changes, facts on consumer rights, courses and many other subjects which may be of interest to both businesses and the consumer.

Amongst many other interesting articles in this issue of the Trading Standards Update we focus on “community safety” which includes doorstep selling, distraction burglary and also the West Yorkshire Proof of Age Scheme which has been introduced by this service to help in the combating of underage sales of products such as alcohol, tobacco and fireworks.

Councillor Graham Clarke, Chairman of the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service Committee said:

“ The issue of doorstep rogue traders and bogus callers targeting householders and the vulnerable is a disturbing aspect of modern society. I hope the articles contained in the newsletter provide helpful information and go some way to showing how to avoid common pitfalls.”
